25,000 yellow and purple balloons are handed out in Times Square on December 31st. They are inflated by volunteers who use industrial air pumps and spend two days twisting, tying and bagging the balloons before storing them in pods distributed up and down Broadway. About 15 miles of gold streamers are attached to the balloons which create an amazing shimmer effect along with a sea of yellow and purple for as far as the eye can see on New Year’s Eve in Times Square.
